Why stress occurs and strategies for managing it

Some common body processes, such those carried out by the immunological and digestive systems, are slowed down by stress. The body may then focus its energy on respiration, blood flow, attentiveness, and getting the muscles ready for an emergency usage.

When the body has a stress reaction, the following changes occur:

respiration becomes faster and heart rate increases when the digestion and immunological systems slow down and muscles tighten.
Due to an increased level of awareness, tiredness reduces.

The consequences of stress on general health will depend on how a person responds to a challenging circumstance. Some people can deal with a number of stressors consecutively or simultaneously without suffering a major stress reaction. Some people may react to a stressor more strongly than others.
